meet the maker behind cabin threads

I’m Aynslie — a semi-retired scientist turned maker — and I design durable, lightweight bags built for life in the North. Every piece is made to handle real use: rugged trails, changing weather, and everyday carry.

My work ranges from bold, modern fabrics from designers like Ruby Star and Tula Pink to technical materials that are water-resistant and long-lasting. Each item is finished with a woven patch that marks it as Handmade in Haines Junction.

This place shapes everything I make. The cabin, the landscape, and the experience of being here are all stitched into the design.

I also design with intention: minimizing fabric waste and turning even the smallest scraps into something useful.

My favourite time to sew is during the long Yukon winter when it is dark and cold outside, the woodstove is going, and my dogs and cats — and CBC radio — are keeping good company.
